Our Founder, Angilie's Story

I started my management and leadership journey with my first healthcare management role of two surgical specialty departments in 2014 in Seattle, Washington, USA just six months shy of graduating with my degree in Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Management.

The beginning of my management and leadership career was not at all what I expected. Despite having my four-year administration-management degree, I spent months being frustrated, confused and overwhelmed as I attempted to desperately keep my head above water in the treacherous sea of leadership and management.

As a new leader and manager, I spent a lot of time struggling and agonizing over why I was so overwhelmed, confused, was constantly putting out fires and feeling lost and unsure.

I read a lot of books and took so many courses on different management and leadership concepts and skills; studying them and then trying my best to implement them hoping things would get better, that I would feel better and do better as a manager and leader. I even attended management and leadership workshops and conferences that only managed to overload me with information and just made me even more confused about how I should go about things. I even tried things like going as far as becoming certified in different skills as well as seeking out and working with various topic experts and mentors.

“The beginning of my management and leadership career was not at all what I expected. I spent months being frustrated, confused and overwhelmed as I attempted to desperately keep my head above water in the treacherous sea of leadership and management.”

Yet the solution to overcoming the confusion, overwhelm and frustration that I was experiencing with my struggles still seemed to elude me no matter what I tried.

Don’t get me wrong, all of my feverish soaking up of copious amounts of knowledge did help, it wasn’t wasted. On the outside, I appeared to be competent, confident and was successful in managing my teams and accomplishing goals. Because of this, I was promoted very quickly through the management ranks – receiving bigger teams and departments and longer job titles.

But on the inside, it was quite a different story. I was suffering from all kinds of different things like imposter syndrome, low self-esteem, fear and negative self-talk. And it was not only affecting me at work but was also affecting my health and my relationships at home.

But then something happened that rocked me to my very core. The day finally came where all of the anxiety, stress and overwhelm had built up and I finally exploded. I suddenly, without any warning whatsoever, lost my composure, I’m talking about lost my *bleep*! It was during a monthly meeting with a division of my team.

“Yet the solution to overcoming the confusion, overwhelm and frustration that I was experiencing with my struggles still seemed to elude me no matter what I tried.”

I can’t even begin to tell you how having such an unexpected, angry emotional outburst shocked not only me but my team members – I had always been known for being super nice, calm and composed. Some members of my staff left the meeting disgusted by my behavior; others left in tears from my outburst and others were openly concerned. It really was the proverbial wake up call for me.

I suddenly realized I had to figure out how to overcome all of the struggles I was experiencing or I was going to end up becoming the type of boss that everyone hates having – a boss who literally bosses everyone around because they have no idea how to lead. You know the type, right? The dictator who points, hollers and demands rather than motivates, inspires, and empowers.

You can bet I got serious really quickly. I pivoted in my approach and sat down and really started to ask myself and ponder some really tough questions – who was I? What did I want? How had I gotten here? Where was I going from here?

I then unknowingly started a journey of self-awareness and self-discovery while trying to develop the leadership skills I thought I needed to be effective and succeed in my management and leadership role.

“I suddenly realized I had to figure out how to overcome all of the struggles I was experiencing or I was going to end up becoming the type of boss that everyone hates having.”

And then ultimately, I did it. One day I just looked up and realized that I no longer only appeared to be a competent, confident and successful manager and leader, I also FELT like one. I was no longer struggling, feeling overwhelmed, confused, lost or like a failure. And my health and my home life had improved as well.

I had become comfortable as a manager and was growing as a leader and it not only showed in myself and in my departments’ performances but in my team members as well. I had become a leader people wanted to follow.

Case in point, staff from other departments in the company were constantly inquiring about open positions in my departments and applying quickly when they occurred because of the type of manager and leader I had become which they expressed they wanted to work with.

So, how did I do it?

I got to know myself. I started to learn about who I really and truly am and as a result began to lead myself which ultimately helped me effectively lead others.

So, how did I do it? I got to know myself. I started to learn about who I really and truly am and as a result began to lead myself which ultimately helped me effectively lead others.

With deep personal reflection, introspection, and studying personal development (not professional development anymore), I realized just how much of a stranger I was to myself. I had no idea who I really was, what I was really capable of or even what I truly desired. I realized how powerful truly knowing yourself can be and just how not knowing yourself can work against you (oh man, did I know that for a fact!) instead of for you if you aren’t aware of the power of self-awareness or how to harness it. Next, as if by default, I became a better leader of not only my teams but also of myself.

Bing, bang, boom, fast forward to now, and I’ve got multiple management and leadership successes and recognitions under my belt AND a successful leadership coaching business. I now spend less time working than ever before which allows me to have more time for myself and my family. I no longer feel overwhelmed or burnt out and my life is fulfilling and richer like never before.

Despite my management and leadership journey being a proverbial rollercoaster on all levels, I now know with absolute certainty that I was meant to experience it and be guided to this very moment. My journey helped me to discover my calling to serve and help other managers who aspire to be leaders, discover and unleash their inner phenomenal leaders. To become their most powerful, transformative selves and enhance their reach, impact and live tremendously rich lives.

I’m here to serve you and help you fulfill your fullest potential as a leader AND as a person and contribute to the world in your own unique way.

Authenticity: We believe in being true to ourselves – our strengths, our weaknesses, our quirks, and our passions. By being authentic, we build trust, inspire others, and create a culture of authenticity throughout our organizations and communities.

Leadership: We believe that we all are meant to be leaders of our own lives. No matter what our role or title may be, we have the power to make a positive impact, to lead by example, and to inspire those around us.

So there you have it – our core values, the guiding principles that shape everything we do here at Oversight Global. We hope these values resonate with you, inspire you, and motivate you to become the best leader you can be and are meant to be.
